Brochure type Sites: Often built on WP platforms (not a true website platform) and not seen as very important by Google unless a lot of blogging is going on. Copy supplied by client and unlikely to be suitable for online or SEO purposes. Some photography and basic contact forms without autoresponders etc. Usually no Calls to Action get used. These sites are typically under 10 pages, often “look” great but are unlikely to generate any meaningful new business from enquiries from search engines like Google. They are nice to have but produce little revenue. John Ruskin’s law applies: “Spending a little and expecting a lot is an unrealistic dream.” Likelihood of a good Return On Investment … Low

Lead Generation Sites: Typically 20 – 50 pages of copy specifically written for online with SEO in mind. Gallery of photos/examples/products for visitors, 30 -50 pictures. Calls to Action on every page, enquiry forms with auto responder ‘Thank you’ plus auto email follow up. Google Analytics installed to measure traffic and enquiries. Blog feature attached to the website to self update and inform exisiting and new customers about new products, events and prices etc. As a larger site, Google will rate you more highly and give preference to your listings and search terms….you will get found more easily on Google. Video functionality available. Offline marketing provided and inclusion in appropriate directories and industry guides will be carried out. Guidance on sales and marketing included eg. Try not to sell with or even mention price! You will end up in “the price trap” due to “commoditising” your products or services. You and your products are NOT the same as everyone else but if you use just price, you may lose many of your brand values. Lead Generation plus Ecommerce Sites: All of the above but includes an online shop plus other ecommerce attributes and features. Database driven, almost infinite number of products. Secure hosting, SSLs organised and IM accounts explained. SEO for ecommerce implemented. Content Management System, CMS, provided to self update, change and edit products and prices.
Likelihood of a good Return on Investment….Very High.
It really depends on the effectivenesss of the “lead generation” part.
Other Options and Add ons: Video and Podcast conversion, Email marketing, Forum, Guest blogs, Directories, Buy/Sell Tenders, News publishing, Pay Per Click guidance, correct use of Social Media for B2B and B2C, Using YouTube correctly. Guidance on strategy and tactics…2 very different animals and often a very difficult exercise to go through. Company positioning.
Tips: We can teach and/or we can implement. Avoid promotional language and other spammy communications, at all times. One shot emails have practically no value. Online is hugely different to offline/brochure territory in terms of copy, copy length and on-page real estate positions. Read other posts on this blog. Ask for references of financial success in all cases. Copy sells, graphics are there to support the written offer.
